Abstract :
Values are assumptions and beliefs that allow discrimination between good and bad behavior. In this respect, values are guidance for individual behavior. Communities aim to transfer values to the next generations in the historical process. First, responsibility of transferring these values to individuals lies with families, after families schools are responsible. In schools, values are transferred to students through literary texts. Values are transferred through tales, anecdotes, folk tales and legends in Turkish literature for centuries. In this study, Turkish Legends, compiled in 10 separate books by Özeren (2010), were examined through document review method, one of the qualitative research methods. The following values are determined to be included in Turkish Legends; values such as love, respect, benevolence, solidarity, honesty, patriotism, diligence, aesthetic and health are determined to be included sufficiently in legends, whereas values such as hospitality, family unity, fairness, tolerance, independence, peace, responsibility, sensitivity, scientific values, freedom and cleaning are found to be less in legends.
