Abstract :
The aviation industry which entered a period of rapid growth and change following the second world war, has become an important types of transportation in both our country and the world regarding rapidly large growing with influence of globalization and technological advances in the recent years. By providing air transportation efficiently considerable share have been observed in airports ownership and structure. In this study, public and private airport groups that run multiple airports centered in Europe are researched. Ownership of airport groups are observed to show difference in public, private and hybrid structures. Besides that, it is observed that airport groups own each others’ shares and checked each other at a certain extent. Study results present that airport groups that act within the scope of government fall behind in income order in comparison to airport groups of private and private-public partnership. Examination results show that it is beneficial for public corporation that run airports in Turkey (GDSAA) must have its structure changed. In other words it is thought that, by undergoing structural changes in its ownership, GDSAA (General Directorate of State Airports Authority) that runs airport management activities in Turkey will increase efficiency and productivity of the Corporation.
