THE PERCEPTION OF MOTIVATION TOWARDS TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to analyze the extent of motivation among learners of Turkish as a foreign language, considering variables gender, anxiety levels and the number of foreign languages spoken. The research has quantitative research model which is designed as a one-group posttest. The target population of the study is 108 students learning Turkish at the School of Modern Greek Language, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. All participants are Greek and they are learning A1 basic level Turkish as a foreign language. The Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale widely used by the researchers in studies on the anxiety of foreign language, developed by Horwitz et al to assess foreign language anxieties of the students’ attending classrooms designed to teach foreign languages was used. As a conclusion, according to the analysis results the male subjects have higher motivations than female subjects for learning Turkish as a foreign language and the subjects who are able to speak three or more foreign languages have higher motivations than those who speak one and two foreign languages.
