A STUDY ON PERCEPTION OF TURKS AND TURKEY BY THE ATTENDEES IN HARVARD JOHN F. KENNEDY SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT SENIOR MANAGERS IN GOVERNMENT PROGRAM
Abstract :
This article seeks to interrogate the perception and attitudes towards Turks and Turkey of the attendees in Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Managers in Government Program HKS-SMG. The participants are well educated, high level managers and elites from all over the World. The paper not only seeks the knowledge and perception of attendees in terms of Turks and Turkey but also from which main and secondary resources that their knowledge and perceptions come from. Opinions about Turks and Turkey consist on political appearance, lifestyle, democracy, human rights and an example of the Arab spring, Turkey s recognition consist on tourism, political leaders, sports and trademarks examined four sizes as well. The participants’ rate of perception of Turks is higher than the rate of perception of Turkey shows us Turkish individual s image is better than the state s image although both of them are respectively high. Conversely, among principle component analysis, only İstanbul is well-known, other components have subliminal perception. In short, measuring the perception of Turkey and Turks among elite persons’ from all over the world may led a path way for defining the states approach to Turkey, due to different parameters were tested whether a change may occur or not. Hence, this study will attempt to shed light not only on the 2012-2013s’ Turkish and Turkey’s image and perception related to economic, politic and social aspects but also on the current debates inside and outside the country may be the touchstone to measure as a basis of comparison.
