PROBLEMS OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTORS WORKING AT FOREIGN LANGUAGES SCHOOLS
Abstract :
The purpose of this research is to identify the problems of English Language instructors and suggest possible solutions about regarding these issues. This research paper will be the first comprehensive study in Turkish Education System English addressing to these issues .To do this, language instructors’ problems were scrutinized, therefore the literature review was conducted. Later, the data were collected from the work group by means of semi-structured form, and analyzed with descriptive analysis technic. Later, the work group involved 71 instructors working in two private and two state universities. By means of semi-structured form, questions about the difficulties instructors may experience were directed to the participants. The answers given to these questions were analyzed through content analyses technic and then categorized under different themes. Results indicate that instructors prefer this job because of the desire to give education to adults, better working conditions, better income, and finally a gateway to academic studies. %55 of the instructors appear to have negative perception about their status. When compared with other academics, they have the perception that their workload and working times are much, and their salaries are low and the respect shown to them is low. % 41 of instructors have asserted that they have a low job satisfaction. Some administrative, financial, workload, work conditions, social rights and status problems are the most prevalent issues.
