Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine Turkish teacher candidates’ thoughts about writing texts fitting for purpose in the qualifications they need in the educational environment. The survey form wasused to determine the opinions of teacher candidates. Literature and expert opinion were consulted in the preparation of this form. Data were analyzed by content analysis. Compliance between coders is made for reliability. Turkish teacher candidates see themselves sufficient mostly in writing essay texts according to the survey results. The most important reasons for seeing themselves sufficient in writing essay texts are expressing thoughts and feelings easily and having no restrictions in topics. Teacher candidates hold the opinion that it is necessary for teachers, students, textbooks and texts, learningteaching process to write texts on the course topics. In addition, the majority of teachers believe that when needed, they can write texts on the course topics. The issues which require their attention while writing texts about course topics emerge in the themes as students, language and expression, subject/content, program/achievements. Teacher candidates believe that writing texts fitting for purpose is necessary and see themselves sufficient in this regard. Teachers who are aware of the problems inherent in the texts in textbooks are conscious of the issues they will note while writing textsin case of need.
