PEDAGOGICAL FORMATION STUDENTS’ SELF-EFFICACY AND METAFORIC PERCEPTIONS RELATED TO TEACHING PROFESSION
Abstract :
In this study, it is aimed to identify formation students’ self-efficacy about teaching and their metaforic perceptions related to formation program and teaching profession. For this purpose, survey method has been preferrred. “Teaching Self-Efficacy Scale” has been used as data collection tool which was developed by Tschannen-Moran and Hoy (2001). Its Turkish validity and reliability study has been conducted by Çapa, Çakıroğlu ve Sarıkaya (2005). Also, in order to determine metaforic perceptions toward “teaching and profession”, formation students were asked to complete two questions. Within scope of this study, 381 pedagogical formation students have been reached. When the findings of study are analyzed, it is observed that students who receive formation education display high self-efficacy levels about teaching. While gender and age don’t make significant difference in self-efficacy levels, the department does. Also, after looking at metafors of students who receive formation education, it is identified that most of their metafors about teaching profession are positive but most of their metaphors about formation programs are negative.
