AN EVALUATION ABOUT EDUCATION OF LITERATURE IN TURKEY
Abstract :
Literature, including any verbal and written outputs penned with artistic and aesthetic concerns, can be referred to a discipline that cannot be abstracted from language education and that can be used as a parameter in identifying level of development of any nations. From this angle, the challenges faced in the education of undergraduate student teachers who will teach literature might lead to problems in having these teachers develop a proper knowledge of Turkish literature and the richness of Turkish language. The primary purpose of this study is to identify the views of Preservice Turkish language and literature teachers about the effectiveness of their education of literature. The research was carried out with 15 Preservice Turkish language and literature teachers. The data set was collected through semistructured interview including 9 questions. The data was analysed through NVivo 8 to evaluate the participants views through content analysis. The findings were also quantified with distributions of frequencies and percentages. The study concludes that the effectiveness of education of literature varies according to some variables and that the teachers satisfaction is below the desired level.
