مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - THE EFFECT OF TEACHING LISTENING STRATEGIES TO LISTENING COMPREHENSION SKILLS IN NINTH GRADE STUDENTS

Abstract :

In this study, ıt is aimed to investigate the effect of listening comprehension skills to teachingof listening strategies of ninth grade students. In this study, quasi-experimental methods was used in quantitative research methods with control group. The study was conducted on 55 students in ninth grade in Susurluk Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in Susurluk depending on Balıkesir province in 2015- 2015 Academic year achievement tests of reliability and validity provided in the result of the pilot study prepared by researchers were used as data collection tool in the study. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS (20) package program. According to the results obtained in the study, when pretest and post- test results of students in the experimental group were compared, it was determined that there was a significant difference in favor of the post-test (p 0,05). Statistically, significant difference in results in pre-test and post-test of the control group students wasn t observed (p 0,05). There were no statistically significant difference in listening strategies in tests that measure academic success according to gender (p 0,05). A significant correlation between pre- and post-test with the average of the grades received by students from the first exam was observed at the end of the study. The scores from pre-test and post-test taken by students with high GPA was also higher. According to the obtained results, it can be said that listening strategies can improve the student’s listening comprehension abilities. It can also be said thatwhen academic achievements of the students increase, listening comprehension level increases.
