Abstract :
“The state” phenomenon surviving from past to present by reproducing its legitimacy bases effects social life in varying degrees in the context of its relation with community under the rule and its position in the community’s perception. The state in Turkish political life where it is deemed equivalent to a social existence has a privileged position compared to its counterparts in other societies. “The raison d’etat” tradition, where the state in the state- society relation prioritize individuals, social formations -family, tribe, ethnicity, nation…- and cultural structures -religion, faith…- in terms of importance, is a political and social accumulation transferred to present day.The aim of this study is to explain the roots, patterns being traced and current position of “the raison d’etat” tradition functioning under the monopoly of different carrying- intelligentsia in Turkish political life until today. It is assessed in the conclusion of investigation carried out in the framework of the state-society relation, that “the raison d’etat” tradition survived since early Turkish states, resisted and became a continuity directing Turkish political life by relocating though it was considered to be a provisional measure with the establishment of the Republic.
