مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - THE EFFECT OF COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTION ON STUDENTS’ MOTIVATIONS TOWARDS LESSON AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS COMPUTER AND LESSON IN 8th GRADE HISTORY OF REVOLUTION IN TURKISH REPUBLIC AND KEMALISM LESSON

Abstract :

Computer assisted instruction (CAI) can be defined as using computers assupportive materials for learning environments of various lessons. CAI is supposed to be effective especially on students cognitive and affective behaviours. The over all objective of this research is to investigate the effect of CAI on students’ motivations towards lesson and attitudes towards lesson and computer in 8th grade history of revolution in Turkish Republic and Kemalism lesson. The research is based on experimental model and made according to pretest-posttest control group pattern. The research comprised “lndependence or Death” and “The Steps toward Modern Turkey” units and was realized in Kahramanmaraş city Pazarcık district during the period of twelve weeks. The study group included thirty students in the experimental group and thirty one students in the control group. The lessons were based on CAI in the experimental group, however, the lessons in the control group were based on teaching methods and techniques which are proposed in curriculum. The scale of attitudes towards the history of revolution in Turkish Republic and Kemalism lesson, the scale of attitude in primary school, and the scale of attitude toward computer were used to collect data. The data were analyzed by using dependent and independent samples t-tests, ANOVA and ANCOVA techniques. Results show that, the CAI has influenced positively the experimental group students attitudes towards the history of revolution in Turkish Republic and Kemalism lesson, but hasn’t influenced their motivations towards the lesson and attitudes towards the computer.
