Abstract :
This study aims to find out preschool teachers perceptions on the concept of “technology” by the help of metaphors. The study takes place in 2015-2016 academic year and consists of 76 preschool teachers who work in Gaziantep Province: 52 women (% 68,4) and 24 men (% 31,6). It is a descriptive research that relates to the determination and analysis of the current situation. For the collection, analysis and interpretation of the study, the qualitative research method is used. The participants were asked to complete sentences beginning as “Technology is …/ like…; because… “. The purpose is having the teachers reveal their perceptions against technology concept. The data obtained are analyzed using the content analysis technique. According to the data obtained, preschool teachers have produced 57 available metaphors. Those metaphors are subjected to some kind of process analysis as “naming, screening, category development, ensuring the validity and reliability steps and interpretation according to the generated metaphors”. Evaluation process was conducted in six interrelated categories with common characteristics. The research results showing how the preschool teachers perceive “ technology” are as follows: 14,5% of the teachers see technology in a “negative aspect” whereas 23,7% in “positive aspect”, 10,5% as “infinity”, 11,8% as “a living being”, 31,6% as “the need” while 7,9% as “life”.In the study, the researchers have reached a result that metaphors can be used as important tools in stating their perceptions on the concept of “technology”.
