This paper dwells on the work titled Kelâmü’l-Mülûk Mülûkü’l-Kelâm (Words ofSultans, Sultans of the Words), written by Ali Nureddin. Published in 1311 (1893 A.D.), the work includes 22 Ottoman sultans renowned for their poetry. These sultans are Osman I, Orhan Ghazi, Murad I, Bayezid I (Yıldırım), Mehmed I (Chelebi), Murad II, Mehmed II (the Conqueror), Bayezid II, Selim I (Yavuz), Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II, Murad III, Mehmed III, Ahmed I, Osman II (the Young), Murad IV, Mustafa II, Ahmed III, Mahmud I, Mustafa III, Selim III, and Mahmud II. Ali Nureddin begins its work by introducing each sultan and his poetry individually by one or two sentences dedicated to them. Then, he provides examples from the poems of each sultan under an introductory title dedicated to the respective sultan. Considering the fact that the work titled Cevâhirü’l-Mülûk, written by Ali Emîrî Efendi about the poet sultans was published in 1319 (1901 A.D. - 1902 A.D.), the work by Ali Nureddin is considered to be the first work of its kind based on our current knowledge. In this paper, the aforesaid work by Ali Nureddin will be introduced and then some of the examples of the poems written by the said poet sultans will be provided.
