THE OPINIONS OF BEGINNING TEACHERS ON EDUCATION AND TRAINING THEY HAD AT FACULTIES OF EDUCATION
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to describe the beginning teachers’ views related to teacher education and training which they had at faculties of education; which kinds of teaching education the teacher-trainees wish to have at universities, and their suggestions for universities’ being more successful at teachers’ education. A qualitative research model was used in this study, and data were collected by means of phenomenological interviewing technic. The study group was formed by 60 beginning teachers working in province of Şanlıurfa, in September, 2012. The results of the study indicated that the education faculties were inadequate at training the students to teaching profession itself. Beginning teachers stated that they want to have a more practical education; they also suggested that university teachers should be the teachers who have good teaching qualifications; the duration of training should be lengthened and be started at the first class of universities; there should be lessons at faculties of education about communication towards students and parents; more emphasis should be put on child psychology; state teachers selection exam (KPSS) should be annulled.
