Abstract :
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of age, gender and body fat on body height and weight, and physique, speed and anaerobic power of children. For the purpose of this study, variables of height, weight, skinfold measurements, speed and anaerobic power were tested in a total of 761 subjects including 561 males and 200 females between the ages of 14 and 17. Two-way analyzes of variance was used to determine the effects of age and gender on physique, speed and anaerobic power in children. Results of this study showed that gender, age groups and amount of body fat as factors affect body height, body weight, vertical jump and anaerobic power. Skinfold measurements and sum of 4 skinfold were significantly affected by age and gender factors. The change in physical measurements depending on age were similar for boys and girls, however, for all ages boys were taller and heavier than girls. As for speed, boys were faster than girls in 10 and 20 meters sprint. High rate of speed development were observed in boys between 15 and 16 years. From 14 to 17 years, girls showed gradual decrease in speed. Determination of talent in early age and observation of growth rate in children is important for athletic performance and health.
