Title Of Article :
THE EFFECT OF SPORTS ON THE BODILY-KINESTHETICS AND INTERPERSONAL MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES SCORES OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to compare the bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores of the students of Ondokuz Mayıs University Physical Training and Sports High School (BESYO) and the students of Ondokuz Mayıs Vocational Police High School (PMYO) . 472 students from BESYO and 133 students from PMYO participated in the study voluntarily. The students were asked to complete an information form and a “Multiple Intelligences Questionnaire”. The information form consists of a total of 12 questions relating to the students, their families, and their sports habits. The Multiple Intelligences Questionnaire is Likert type and consists of 10 parts and a total of 80 items. For the statistical analyses, One-way ANOVA and independent sample t-test were used. The averages of the bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores were quite close to each other for Vocational PMYO students (37,76 and 37 ) and BESYO students. Again, no difference was found between the bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores of two genders (p 0.05). While there was a difference in the bodily-kinesthetics multiple intelligences scores between the types of the high schools the students graduated from (p 0.05), no difference was found in the interpersonal multiple intelligences scores (p 0.05). The most important reason why there was a difference in the bodilykinesthetics multiple intelligences scores can be explained with the fact that the students who graduate from Sports High Schools are more talented and more educated in the field of sports when compared with the students who graduate from other types of high schools. The bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores of the students who graduated from Sports High Schools were the highest, while the scores of the students who graduated from Private High Schools were the lowest. As a conclusion, it can be said that sport affects the bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores positively and that there is no difference between the bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores of the two genders. Sports activities should be used more in increasing the bodily-kinesthetics and interpersonal multiple intelligences scores
