THE COMPARISON OF PHYSICAL SELF-PERCEPTION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND BALLET DANCERS
Abstract :
The aim of this study is the comparison of the physical self-perception of physical education students, teachers and dancers. 240 students studying in Ondokuz Mayis University Yaşar Dogu Faculty of Sport Sciences, 71 teachers working as physical education teachers in Samsun and 70 ballet dancers participated in this study. Physical Self-Perception Profile (PSPP) was used in this study. While the values of body attractiveness and general physical capability of men over 26 years of age were significantly higher than the other age groups (p 0.05); in women over 26 years of age, sports skills, physical fitness, body attractiveness, general physical capability and strength values were significantly higher (p 0.05). As for the height of men and women, no significant difference was found in 5 sub dimensions (p 0.05). As for body weight, the values of physical fitness and body attractiveness were significantly lower in women over 26 years of age (p 0.05). No significant difference was found between genders (p 0.05). As for professional status, while the values of physical fitness, body attractiveness and physical competence of ballet dancers were significantly higher than those of physical education teachers and students (p 0.001), sports ability and strength values of ballet dancers were significantly higher than those of physical education students (p 0.05).The sport ability and physical fitness values of ballet dancers were significantly higher than team, individual and martial arts participants in the level of p 0.001 and also higher in other sub dimensions in the level of p 0.05.As a result; the physical self-perception of ballet dancers were found to be higher than physical education teachers and students. In addition, it is thought that students’ physical self-perception can increase with age and experience.
