Abstract :
The popularity of sports activities and competitions is growing around the world day by day. These activities which are preferred for healthier life has many benefits but they also include a stressful time of tissue traumas which are caused during sports activities. Traumatic dental injures become an important public health problem because of their high prevalence. They can cause serious aesthetic, functional and psychological problems. The use of mouth guards can significantly decrease or prevent sports related dental traumas and this is what separates these traumas from other traumas. After trauma, correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment can provide successful recovery. In this article we present information about the etiologies and emergent treatments of dental traumatic injuries and mouth guards.
