Abstract :
Physical fitness is a person’s ability to maintain muscular work successfully. Physical activity is generated by the skeletal muscles and leads to energy consumption over baseline daily physical activity. Assessing the level of physical fitness in children and adolescents at an early age allows for acquiring of personal health. For this reason, a person’s physical fitness, physical activity and lifelong exercise habits are important. The aim of this study is to evaluate physical activity and physical fitness of male and female students aged between 12-17 years who regularly engage in sports. 130 (45 female, 85 male) students who do sports on a regular basis and 141 (76 female, 65 male) students who do not do sports on a regular basis but only attend the physical education classes participated voluntarily in this study. By using the bioelectric impedance analysis method the body weight, body mass index,skeletal muscle weight, body fat weight and body fat rate measurements were taken. Eurofit tests were used to assess physical suitability in terms of health and performance. All of the obtained data shows that males and females in the 12-17 age group who do sports on a regular basis are generally in a better situation in terms of physical suitability from a health and performance aspect compared to their peers who do not exercise on a regular basis. According to these results, it can be said that doing sports on a regular basis has a positive impact on the level of physical suitability for both genders.
