Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference between socio-economic levels and motor skills of the 6-7 age group elementary school male students with different socio-economic statuses. A total of 299 male students of 6-7 age group from 14 schools with different socio-economic statuses participated in the study voluntarily. In order to determine the socio-economic status of the students, Socio- Economic Status (SES) scale was used and “Test of Gross Motor Development-Second Edition (TGMD-2)” adapted into Turkish by Tepelik (2007) was administered in order to determine the basic motor skills of the students. One-Way ANOVA test was used in order to determine the difference between socio-economic levels and TGMD-2 , locomotor sub-skills and object control sub-skill scores, and Post-Hoc Scheffe analysis was performed in order to specify the difference between the groups; the level of significance was accepted as p 0.01. TGMD-2, loco-motor sub-skill and object control sub-skill scores of the students with lower socio- economic status were found to be significantly lower rather than the scores of the students with medium and higher socio-economic status (p 0.01), and no significant difference was determined between the TGMD-2, loco-motor sub-skill and object control sub-skill scores of the students with medium and higher socio-economic status (p 0.01). As a conclusion, an increase was found in gross motor skills and sub-skill scores of the students as their socio-economic levels increased.
