THE IMPACT OF MAXIMAL RESISTANT STRENGHT TRAINING ON 2000 AND 6000 METERS ROWING ERGOMETER TEST IN YOUNG MALE ROWERS
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the most active working muscles (quadriceps, latissimus dorsi and biceps) on the performance of the 2000 meter and 6000 meter rowing ergometer on the basis of maximal resistance training in the basic rowing motion. The study group (17-18 age) consisted 12 rowers with a rowing age of at least two years from Fenerbahce Sport Club young rowing team and the control group(17-18 age) consisted of at 12 rowers with a rowing age of at least two years from Galatasaray Sport club young rowing team. First, some anthropometric measurements of both groups in the study were taken. At the beginning of the study (pre-test) and after the end of maximal resistant strength training for 2 days a week for 8 weeks (post-test), full free squat maximal weight test and bench pull maximal weight test were performed. Also, both groups were tested before study and 8 weeks after the 2000 meter and 6000 meter free tempo maximal strength rowing ergometer test. At the end of 8 week maximal resistance strength training, Bench Pull and Full Free Squat Maximal pre-post test comparison results showed statistically significant difference in favor of both groups. However, in the Bench Pull Maximal test, the study group s increase in kilograms is 6.71% higher than the control group s increase while in the Full Free Squat maximal test, the increase in the kilograms of the study group is 6.82% higher than that of the control group. The results of the study showed that maximal resistance strength trainings influenced both 500 m / min. as well as the total time results in the 2000 meter rowing ergometer test at a statistically significant level. Whereas, no statistically significant difference was found in the 6000 meter ergometer test results. Based on the result; it should be taken into account that maximal strength training may be effective at this race distance in rowing training, which is planned for short distance but high severity 2000 meter rowing races.
