  • Abstract
Microorganisms are small organisms as we cannot see with the naked eye. Microorganisms that play a role in the ecological balance are mainly composed of bacteria, fungi, algae, viruses and protozoa. The medium and petri dish are used in order to provide the growth medium to microorganism by mixing agar and other nutrients for performing operations such as isolating from the environment, growth, counting of microorganisms. The number of microorganisms may reach the million or even more by reproductively, in this way they form structures called colony which can be seen with the naked eye. In terminology, this structure expressed as colony forming units (cfu). Mold on the cheese, bread, fruit or yogurt, yeast on the sugar-containing foods such as chocolate, marmalade are colonies formed by grown microorganism. Colonies formed on the agar, create images of different morphological characteristics depending on the microorganism and growth media. In this paper, classification of microorganism is performed from the colony images by image processing and pattern recognition techniques.
