    Interdigital capacitor loaded wideband bandstop microstrip filter design

  • Abstract
    In this paper, a wideband microstrip bandstop filter design having a compact size is proposed. The proposed filter is designed by making a capacitive loading to the bottom side of a meandered open loop resonator formed by folded microstrip transmission lines. Input-output ports are connected to each other with a high impedance transmission line and capacitive loading is achieved by interdigital capacitors to this transmission line. In the designed filter, high selectivity can be obtained by means of reflection zeros occurred at the upper and lower frequencies of the stopband. Control of those reflection zeros is achieved by the changes in various parameters of the circuit. Besides, there are two transmission zeros inside the stopband. Bandwidth and center frequency of the stopband can also be controlled. In order to prove the validity of the proposed study, the designed filter was fabricated on an RT/Duroid substrate having a dielectric constant of 10.2 and a thickness of 1.27 mm. Measured results of the filter with a center frequency of approximately 2.57 GHz and a bandwidth of 1.22 GHz have been observed in a very good agreement with the simulated results. In the measurements, return loss and in-band insertion loss have been obtained as -0.3 dB and better than -20 dB, respectively.
