The Effect of the End Plate Added Circular Hollow Section (CHS) Beam and Column on Rigidity Under Bending
Abstract :
According to the Turkish Earthquake code, which is still in use, the steel structure system is classified as systems that of ductility levels are high and normal, with regards to this classification, the coefficient of the structure behaviour is determined and the earthquake force effecting the structure is calculated. Besides some conditions related to describing the steel frame system as frame system that of high ductility level, the details about beam/column connections transfering moment are given just for I profiles, while there are no connection details about the beam/column connection details that are consisted of box or circular hollow section elements. That is why, there is an uncertainty in the definition of the ductility level of the structure system consisting of box and circular hollow section elements.In this study, the effect of the end plate, which is added as rigid plate to the circular hollow section conditions, to the moment capacity has been examined. In this context, in order to prevent the effects of local buckling occuring under the effect of circular hollow section connections by welding, the contribution of the end rigid plate added to the nodal point with different sizes to the behaviour and the effect of the plate sizes to the connection capacity has been examined numerally and experimantally. The results obtained from the experimental analyses have been given comparatively being supported by the finite element program ANSYS.
