SEISMIC RESPONSE OF SATURATED SAND DEPOSITS WITH SILT INTERLAYERS

Abstract
The saturated loose fine sands are known to be the soil with the highest susceptibility to liquefaction under cyclic loads such as earthquakes. Yet, both the laboratory studies and the field observations after various earthquakes have indicated ground conditions with silt inclusions or silt layers without plastic characteristics can also have high risk of liquefaction. In this respect, in this study the effect of the existence of silt interlayers in the saturated sand deposits with different relative density has been investigated parametrically through the use of the LASS-IV code, capable to perform effective stress analysis.
