Abstract
Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) or Lyell Syndrome is an idiosyncratic systemic disease, characterized by generalized epidermal exfoliation including all layers of skin, fever, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, cough, sore throat, myalgia and mucosal membrane involvement. Drugs are the most common cause of TEN. After the diagnosis is established, for treatment the causative agent should be discontinued and supportive care should be provided. Antiepileptic drugs are commonly used in neurosurgery clinics although there is still no consensus on its use. Here we report a 51 year old female patient who developed TEN shortly after prophylactic use of phenytoin with the emphasis of prophylactic antiepileptic use.
