Evaluating Predisposing Factors among Wheezy Infants

Abstract
Aim: Wheezing is a musical voice that is caused due to partial lower airway obstruction. The aim of this study is to search for the predisposing factors among children aged between 0-6 months, also look for any relation between wheezing and socioeconomic factors and child’s gestational week and weight. Material and methods: Families having children aged between 0-6 months who admitted to Afyon Kocatepe University, Medical Faculty, Department of Pediatrics, and to Zübeyde Hanım Childrens Hospital were taken into the study. Families were asked to fullfill a questionaire with 33 items. Totally 225 questionnaires were fullfilled. Results: According to the answers given; boys, children in the first 6 months of their lives, winter, hay fever history were predisposing factors for wheezy infant. Gestational week and birth weight of children with wheezing were similar with other children with no wheezing. It is suggested that wheezy infants are influenced by familial and environmental factors.
