  • Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate vitamin D levels in premenapausal healthy women and to assess its’ relationship with quality of life and depressive symptoms and depression. Material and Methods: The study included 120 healthy premenapausal women aged between 39 and 49. Complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, thyroid function tests and serum 25(OH) vitamin D, parathormone (PTH), alkaline phosphotase (ALP), calcium (Ca), phosphor (P) levels were studied. Serum vitamin D levels below 25 ng/ml were considered as vitamin D deficiency. Body mass indexes (BMI) of the all participants were noted. Quadriceps muscle strength (QMS) was evaluated with manual test, and all participants filled visual analog scale (VAS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Quality of Life Short Form 36 (SF-36) questionnairres. Results: Mean vitamin D level of the participants were 12,56 ng/ml. There was no correlation between vitamin D levels and age, BMI and serum Ca, P, ALP levels whereas negative correlation was found with PTH levels. QMS and SF-36 subtypes were positively correlated with vitamin D levels. Besides, there were significant negative correlation between vitamin D and BDI and VAS scores. Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency in premenapausal women may lead muscle weakness and deterioration of emotional status and quality of life.
