THE PROBLEMS DETERMINED SMEs CREDIT SERVICE EMPLOYEES OF BANKS REGARDING TO CREDITING PROCES

SMEs have various challenges in Turkey; however their problems are mostly financial. To overcome the financial difficulties, SME banking is gaining more importance. In this study, deficiencies in crediting process are detected by the employees working in SME crediting services. The universe of the research was the employees, working in the SME crediting service of the public banks in Ankara. According to them, the most important reason of why crediting processes take long time is the behavior of SMEs. Results of the research show that owners and/or workers of SMEs misinform bank employees, and they do not provide the necessary documents accurately on time. Bank employees think that SME owners/managers are not fully aware about SME credits, moreover SMEs have unregistered operations. Bank employees agree that if SME owners/managers learn more about credits and finance, the credit process will be shortened. Some suggestions based upon the findings of research are: SMEs should update the documents and knowledge about their enterprise even if they do not need credits, they should inform the bank employees about all relevant issues, and they should hire employees who are aware of topics about credits and finance.
