Abstract
In this study was investigated the some biometric properties of the Brown comber, Serranus hepatus (Linnaeus, 1758), population in Izmir Bay (Aegean Sea). Minimum and maximum total lengths of 204 sample collected from Izmir Bay between January 2002 and May 2002 were determined as 60 and 111 mm, respectively. The total length (TL)–standard length (SL) relationship was computed TL=1,0452*SL+1,322 (r^2=0.923) and total length (TL)-weight (W) relationship was computed W=0,0096*TL^3.223 (r^2=0,957). Ten morphometric characters of samples were measured. These characteristics were preanal distance (X1), prepectoral distance (X2), head height (X3), body height (X4), body depth (X5), caudal pedincule height (X6), eye diameter (X7), pre-orbital length (X8), head length (X9), and interorbital distance (X10). According to morphometric characteristics, there was no sexual dimorphism between sexes.
