Two Stories, Two Elements of Change: The Tractor and the Windmill

In this study, the story named “Medeniyetin Yedek Parçası” by Aziz Nesin, the master of humor and satire, and the story named “Cornille Usta’nın Esrarı” in the book Değirmenimden Mektuplar by French author, Alphonse Daudet, have been comparatively studied. The stories have been analyzed in terms of time, place, characters, the subject-matters and the styles. In both stories, the authors have reflected the tragic and ironic sides of their societies in a critical point of view. Although the stories have many common points, the point that has been focused on most is how the main themes have been touched on and reflected. The result that has been reached is that the two authors display common values of two different cultures and of two different individuals by using the elements of humor and satire skillfully.
