Abstract
Today’s universities in the information era have the mission of conducting scientific research and illuminating the public opinion as well as having economic contributions to the regions. It is of great importance to determine the contributions for the local economies. This aim of the study is to examine the student expenditures in conjuction with the extend of the economic contribution using surveys implemented towards the students of Ataturk University in October 2012. It is found out thatthe average expenditure of per-student is 744.66 TL a month. 31276 students within Ataturk University campus, contribute to the province economy about 186.3 million TL in the year. While expenditure on accommodation with 15,7% is found to be the most spending item, sportive activities with 7,3% are the least spending item.
