  • Abstract
Traffic accidents, which cause a great number of death, injury and economical loss, are one of the major problems in Turkey. The usual suspect for traffic accidents are drivers. Despite the fact that almost 90% of accidents happen because of drivers’ mistakes, the relationship between drivers’ behaviors and traffic accidents have not been adequately investigated. This current study investigates factors causing anger on drivers and the drivers’ response against these factors. In addition, the effects of variables such as sex, age, marital status, level of education, number of accidents, number of tickets, maximum speed made by drivers and experience on drivers’ aggression were also investigated. The study was conducted with 226 female and 241 male subjects in the city of Erzurum, Turkey. Data were analyzed using MANOVA, correlation and multiple regression tests on SPSS 17.0. Findings showed that drivers particularly become angry when they face hostile gestures from other drivers. The first way of anger expression chosen by drivers is verbal. In addition, sex, age, marital status and number of accidents affect the level of drivers’ anger and anger expression.
