The Influence of Social Assistance on Voter’s Preferences

Abstract
Until recently the social assistances managed by public sector in Turkey have been in concern of only uninsured individuals. By the help of new arrangements in social welfare models, the quantity of individuals who have benefited and the range of social assistances have increased rapidly. As the criteria of being in need of social assistances have been rearranged, more amount of assistances, financially or in kind, are to be able to be applied. The social aids applied by the central government in order to assist people in need have been reciprocated in different views by various social groups. In this study, the perception of society to social assistances has been taken in consideration of research to correlate the impact on the presidential elections on 8 August 2014, with the sample of Erzurum. As a result of the study it is found out that the level of assistance made by the government has much more impact on the poor voters who are socio-economically low levelled and the members of large families.
