The First Kazakh Novel “Baqytsyz Jamal” and About New Editions

Abstract
Baqytsyz Jamal, considered to be the first novel of Kazakh literatüre, was written by M. Duwlatulı, one of the important personalities of New Kazakh literature. The first publication was carried out in 1910 in Kazan, the second one was printed in 1914. Both publications which were printed on “ancient spelling” based were in Arabic letters. M. Duwlatulı died in 1935 while prisoned from “treason” and “counter revolutionary” crimes. The author’s books were forbidden. Therefore, Baqytsyz Jamal was reprinted in 1991. The book consists of many errors in Cyrillic printing due to distant cultures of the time and distant Arabian letters. In this study, primarily, Arabic writing systems used by the Kazakhs were informed. Then, M. Duwlatulı and his work Baqytsyz Jamal were introduced. Finally, errors in printings written in Cyrillic letter were identified and corrected.
