Abstract
Jeanette Winterson, a contemporary British woman writer, uses allegory, myth, symbolism, fairy tale, mysticism, history, and interweaves modernist and postmodernist techniques to explore the ambiguous nature of reality. Magical realism in literature is based on intertwining two representation modes – realism and the fantastic – that contradict Western rational thinking and question literary realism. The aim of this study is to examine Winterson’s Sexing the Cherry with a magical realist approach through such elements as the mixture of real and unreal elements, the factual, fantastic reality and language.
