  • Abstract
Travertines deposit from the evopartion of water containing calciumbicarbonata are the formations which are the sediments of hot and cold waters containing CaCO3. There are important travertine deposits in Turkey. They are used in industry, in the production of lime and cement, souvenirs. They are deposited by forming morphological structures such as terrace, canal, cone, chimney or bridge depending on the geological, geomorphological, hydrographic and biological conditions of the area where the waters emerge. These hydrogeomorphological structures which can be defined as the accumulation of travertines, are rare natural formations. We can see the nature wonders in Denizli-Pamukkale, Ağrı-Diyadin, Erzincan-Otlukbeli Gölü, Erzurum-Hölenk, Van-Başkale, Hadim-Aksazak, Hadim-Yerköprü, Sındırgı-Hisaralan, Cihanbeyli-Bolluk Gölü, Bolu-Akkale, Sivas-Sıcakçermik.Travertene formations execp for Pamukkale are under the human desruction, and pollitioın . As a result, the travertine areas in Turkey should be examined in detail and morphologically aesthetic ones and the ones having ecological and touristic values should be taken under protection. In this paper, I have studied the permanant travertine areas in Turkey, how they are damaged and how they should be protected.
