Abstract
Mesopotamia is surrounded by the Euphrates River in the west, the Tigris River in the east, the Southeastern Taurus Mountains lie like a crescent in the north and the Persian Gulf surrounds its southern part. The Southeastern Region that is one of the seven geographical regions of Turkey composes the Upper Mesopotamia. The Upper Mesopotamia has been a living quarter of human beings and various and rich cultures have been shaped here. The natural environment factors of the region such as geomorphology, climate, soil, and water have been influential herein. On account of geographical features, agricultural activities in the Southeastern Anatolian Region both had an important place in the past and also are of importance today. For this reason, the historical evolution of the agricultural activities and more intensively the current situation is analysed in this study.
