Orienteering is one of the important methods that can be used in geography education in order to develop the map, fieldwork, questioning and evaluation skills together. The purpose of this study is to reveal the status and effects of orienteering on prospective geography teachers’ self-efficacy perceptions. For this purpose, the data were collected from 46 undergraduate 5th grade students of a geography education department located in Istanbul. The pretest-posttest experimental research model was used in the implementation. The students attended an orienteering activity. The impacts of orienteering on students’ self-efficacy perceptions were determined using an assessment survey. Some descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test were used in the analysis of the results with the help of SPSS^®. The study revealed that the orienteering activity increased the students’ self-efficacy perceptions of map skills by 56%, fieldwork skills by 66% and questioning and evaluation skills by 57%.
