Warehouses as Outbuildings in Uşak Province

Abstract
In this paper, square warehouses as outbuildings in Uşak province were analysed. Warehouses, outside of houses, on land sides and street borders, are the structures where peasantry put wheat, barley, rye etc. various agricultural products. They are common in rural settlements of Banaz and Uşak Central District. Square warehouses are significant elements in local architecture of the region. They are the original structure of rural architecture in harmony with the natural environment. They are completely made of wood materials single-storey structures. Warehouses built at higher place from ground lost their functions. Today, cellars, vineyards house, guardhouse, the mosque is considered even as car garage. In settlements in the study area it was determined to be approximately 953 warehouses. They rapidly increased in number. After migrations from country side to city and changing socio-economic reasons great many of present ones have either destructed or face extinction. South border of square warehouses, which are important or cultural geography, exists on Ulucak, İlyaslı, Omurca, Kökez line. It is necessary to take these structures under protections.
