Abstract
Technological developments in all areas required to make the spatial analysis studies in the smart city and urban information systems. Spatial analyzes are used in many areas with the help of GIS. One of these areas of application is urban studies. In this study, spatial analysis was conducted that of a city s educational function with the help of GIS. Population classification of urban areas varies from one researcher to another (Doğanay, 2014; Göney, 2017). For all that according to Doğanay (2014: 562), the main purpose of this study is to reveal the spatial accessibility to schools in the district of Turgutlu, which has a population over 100,000. As a criterion for accessibility, spatial plans were applied to the Structure Regulation of Spatial Plans- “Mekânsal Planlar Yapı Yönetmeliği”. Besides the spatial accessibility analysis, the level of service in kindergarten, primary, secondary and high schools was also included in the study. The number of students and teachers in the schools and the number of classrooms were taken from the Turgutlu District National Education Directorate and processed and analyzed in ArcGis. In our study, the construction plan from the Municipality of Turgutlu, the housing data from the numaratage service, the OpenStreetMap vector data for the roads, the location information of the schools taken from the Turgutlu District National Education Directorate and the number of students, and the population data from TurkStat were used. According to the results of the study, it can be said that there is accessibility problem in kindergarten and primary schools according to current regulation in the accessibility of public schools in Turgutlu district.
