  • Abstract
    In this study, the names of 21 neighborhoods connected to the Safranbolu District of Karabük Province, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, were examined and their geographical, historical and cultural connections were tried to be expressed. In the research, qualitative research method, document analysis (content analysis) and unstructured interview (interview) qualitative data collection techniques were used. In this regard, the source person mentioned in the acknowledgment section has been discussed, the information about the subject has been recorded first by voice recording and then transferred to the article. Its main sources are; Safranbolu Population Registers with 782 numbered and 787-788 numbered numbers in 1831, Grand Vizier Izzet Mehmet Pasha and Safranbolu Foundation, Safranbolu Central Cemetery Tombstones and Sher-iye Registry Books, some books, articles and thesis studies belonging to Safranbolu history form. Based on these works, by reaching the neighborhood names of Safranbolu District, comparing them with the neighborhood names existing today; With the changes they have undergone, determinations have been made by emphasizing the meanings of their old and new names. As a result of the data obtained, the meaning of 21 neighborhood names in Safranbolu District was examined and a table was created (Table 2). According to this table, Safranbolu neighborhood names; environmental-related names, religion-related names, names consisting of height, tribal, congregation and nicknames, names consisting of human names, nouns consisting of noun or adjective phrases and other names. Natural and human factors have been effective at different levels in naming neighborhoods.
