Abstract
The image of the city, which is one of the study subjects of the behavioral geography, expresses the total perceptions about the city. Individual characteristics and experiences about the city are effective in the formation of the image perception of a city. Knowing the image perceptions of people about the city they are in contributes to the development and planning of the city. In this study prepared with this perspective, it was aimed to determine the image perception of the students studying in Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University about the city of Tekirdağ in the 2019-2020 academic year. Within the scope of the study, a survey consisting of 50 questions was applied to 400 university students. SPSS (Statistical Program For Social Science) 21.0 program was used to analyze the data obtained as a result of the survey study. In order to determine the level of image perceptions of the students who participated in the survey towards the city of Tekirdağ and its people, arithmetic averages were examined, and the examination of the differences of the scores according to gender and Tekirdağ status was made with the T test. With the survey study; It was understood that the image of the city superiority, the image of the people of the city and their perceptions of the city s abstract image were moderate. When the responses given by the sample group are examined, recreational activities and sportive and cultural activities in the city constitute the medium-high image elements, while the green areas in the city, pedestrian transportation, walking and cycling tracks constitute the medium-low image elements. In addition, while it is stated that the goods and services in the city are expensive and cleaning services cannot be carried out well, the city is thought to be open, calm and modern in nature. Additionally, the perceptions of the participants that the city people are sincere, helpful and tolerant are at a high level.
