Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the bonding strength of PVAc-D4 adhesive in the heat treated for some wood materials. For this purpose, bonding strentgh of the Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.), oak (Quercus petraea L.), scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and poplar (Populus nigra L.) woods was determined according to BS EN 205 after the samples were subjected to heat treatment of 150, 175 and 200 ºC for 2 hours, for total 38 hours and prepared with PVAc-D4 glue according to BS EN 204. As a result, bonding strength of parallel to grain of the control samples subjected to heat treatment generally decreased. The highest bonding strength of parallel to grain was obtained for oak samples subjected to heat treatment at 150 ºC (15,97 N/mm^2), the lowest bonding strength of parallel to grain was obtained for poplar samples subjected to heat treatment at 200 ºC (4,10 N/mm^2). Accordingly, oak may give better results for bounding with PVAc- D4 glue of wood materials subjected heat treatment. In addition, losses of bounding strength may be minimized with investigating different methods and heat treatment conditions.
