Effecting factors on surface roughness in wood machining

The measurement of surface roughness of wood products used in the furniture and decoration industry is very importance in terms of determining the quality of the final product. Surface roughness affects significantly the aesthetics of wood products and customer demand in the marketing stage. In addition, the surface roughness of wood is required to be determined because it has an important effect on the adhesion strength in the application of wood finishing. However, initial studies on the determination of surface roughness focused on the metal industry. Studies on the determination of surface roughness of wood have based on the mid- twentieth century. For this purpose, various surface roughness measurement methods have been developed. In this study, the importance of the wood surface roughness, the effective factors on surface roughness, measurement methods of surface roughness and the parameters used in the determination of surface roughness were investigated.
