Abstract
Nature is destroyed by the influence of various factors and this causes biodiversity losses. Biodiversity losses are a serious problem in the world and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) carries out some studies on this subject. In situ and ex situ conservation strategies have been developed to prevent biodiversity losses. In ex situ conservation, modern methods have an important role as well as traditional methods such as seed gene banks and plant collections in the field. The use of in vitro technology within the scope of ex-situ conservation strategies for the preservation of species under threat of extinction in particular offers significant advantages. In vitro techniques are used for collecting, propagating, international exchange and storage of plant material. In this review, the conservation of plant biodiversity using in vitro techniques and studies in Turkey are presented.
