  • Abstract
    Traditional dwellings and examples of folk architecture, which are one of the powerful tools of cultural reflection on the environment, abound in Turkey with their original forms.“The buttoned houses” discussed in this research are located in Mediterranean Region, in province Antalya s mountainous terrains Akseki, İbradı and their countryside. Reflecting the human-environment-culture interaction, “the buttoned houses” attract notices as a cultural heritage. They were authentically constructed with stone and wooden materials supplied easily from immediate environment. The buttoned houses , spreading in a qualified natural environment and attracting attention with their traditional architectural values, can be utilized in tourism. In recent years, it seems that this utilization has started by converting them into hotel, guesthouse or museum in several settlements. Capable of identifying relations between tourism and cultural resources which open the way to cultural tourism is quite essential for future plans. Hence, SWOT analysis has been employed in several areas where “buttoned houses” are located in order to evaluate the potential progress of the tourism. The data acquired from SWOT analysis is based on surveys, interviews and observations carried out in fieldwork. 20-question questionnaire is conducted to 60 city halls and offices of village headmen in total, 4 in Akseki and 47 in its countryside, 3 in İbradı and 6 in its countryside. Thus, explaining the environmental dispersion of The Buttoned Houses in some historical periods, their functional change and their relations to tourism become feasible. Also, the demarcation of a cultural region is tried based on ‘the buttoned houses dispersion property.
