  • Abstract
Farming fields in Nakhcevan were converted into farming facilities like sovhoz and kolkhoz by abolishing personal possessions as it happened in all USSR. Collapsing state centred communism system, lacking infrastructure and capital as well as blockage of Armenia, caused recession in Nakhcevan’s agriculture production in the early years of independence. After Azerbaijan gained independence in 1991, agriculture was placed importance and farmers were suplied to own their lands with the help of privatization and land reform. Under the aegis ofTurkey, at the beginning of 2000s providing political consistency paved the way to increase production and activate agricultural activity in Nakhcevan. Agricultural sector was reconstructed in the manner of meeting Nation’s needs and grain, fruit and vegetables were tried to transform into a structure including cash crop. Increase of efficiency was gained in unit area and enormous strides were made in implementing modern agricultural techniques. Structural transformation of agriculture gained acceleration with the economic stimulus and agricultural pesticide support to agricultural equipments. Since independence (1991-2015) production data of cereals, cash crops and fruit and vegetables have been specified as statement by years with the structural alteration of Nakhcevan agriculture. Notably (particularly) sunflower, fruit and vegetable production have been increased while conventional agricultural products were decreased in cultivating such as tobacco. Nakhcevan has been a region where was famous with mulberry, truck and grapes throughout history. Its location and easy access to many countries provided plenty of advantages to deliver region’s agricultural productions to foreign markets. From now on, it is expected that pattern product will be varied and agricultural activities will be improved associated with expansion of the trade.
