Flight Point Selection with AHP and TOPSIS Methods in Multi-Criteria Decision Making

With today s increasing competition, international logistics and global economic developments, the airline sector has gained importance. With these improvements, the number of passengers who are constantly increasing makes this sector more lively and attractive. Increasing in economic agreements, political relations between countries, tourism etc provides an increase of the interest to these zones and therefore the passenger carrying potential. Therefore, airline companies have to choose the most appropriate and the right place about deciding whether to choose a new flight point. In this study, criteria for influencing selection of flight point were determined by taking expert opinions from an airline company, and a decision model was established. The Analytical Hierachy Process method was used to determine the weights of the criteria affecting selection of new flight point. According to this, the three most important criteria influencing flight point selection are the cost, the political and economic situation of the country, and the potential of the airport network. The potential five cities to choose a new flight point are ranked by the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solutions method.
