Abstract
The two-sided U-type assembly lines, which are formed by the U-shape of a two-sided assembly line, combine the advantages of both assembly line structures. The presence of positive and / or negative zoning constraints in any assembly line brings that line closer to real-life applications, resulting in a more realistic structure. For this purpose, in this study, the two-sided U-type assembly line balancing problem with positive and negative zoning constraints (TUALBPwPNC) is discussed and a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm based solution approach is developed to solve this problem. In order to explain the proposed model and solution approach in more detail, the results obtained by solving a sample assembly line problem are presented.
